Comments for Pauleina and Kirsten: Black Friday

For your comments on Presentations:

First, write about something well done.  What did you learn from this group?  What part of the Presentation seemed the best?  Be specific, and use a specific example from the Presentation and your notes.

Second, offer constructive criticism that would help this group. What might have been more clear?  What part of the Presentation seemed the least polished?  Be specific.

  1. Provided a lot of good information of Black Friday most people wouldnt know. I wish you guys did more on the "Buy Nothing Day" that was shown in the video.

  2. I liked the way you showed the problems of Black Friday, and how it is more for the benefit of the businesses, as many people just see it as a day of sales. I also wish you had done more to show how people go against this day of consumerism.

  3. I liked how the video's helped the audience understand better. One thing that could have been improved is that a lot of the information was repeated.

  4. very powerful speech and I liked how you used person experience to close out your presentation. one thing I will say is at the end you got away from what your presentation was about and made it more of an argument as to why you don't participate

  5. I like how you guys used a call to action to bring families together on Thanksgiving rather than shop on Black Friday. I wished you guys would add a little more information the effects of moving away from Thanksgiving and towards Black Friday.

  6. I liked how you took your research from this project and put yourselves, your beliefs, into it. One thing that I wasn't sure of at first was if Black Friday was a national or a more world wide thing.

  7. I enjoyed your opening video. It set the tone and gave us a little more basic knowledge of your material before the presentation. You clearly showed how it was iconic, but I think you guys made your presentation more of an argument.

  8. Your presentation was something that a lot of people don't think about in a broader spectrum. I liked how you brought up the history and that its more of a gain for the company than the consumers. Its sad to think there's a national death count when the weekend is supposed to be about family. My only criticism would be not covering more on the incidences and the peoples actions to prepare in the actual event such as the lines to get in retail establishments.

  9. I think that the information about the origination of Black Friday was interesting. I think that the videos give a good visual.

I think that your collection of information could be better organized to reflect a linear progression and or points that are being made.

  10. Loved your guys' speech.
Great intro video to focus the audience on your topic before you started talking. Very good use of giving extra/background info on the topic. Nice use of sharing info without reading off paper or slides.
My only criticism : I felt as though you both were very passionate and well educated on this subject and although you gave personal stories about the topic, there wasn't much interaction to what you shared. I was expecting a "now that you know, you can do this" section !
Pauleina : good voice volume and eye contact. good personal story given.
Kirstein : good voice tone, volume, and eye contact. good emotional appeal and personal story given.

  11. I really enjoyed how different your topic was and how your presentation was actually helpful in our day to day lives. My only critique is I wish you would of went into d=the economics of the sale more than you did.

  12. Learning about the history of Black Friday was interesting, as where the parallels brought up about consumerism and the damage (often physical) caused by frenzied shoppers.

  13. I wasn't aware of the origins of Black Friday, so it was an interesting topic for me. More flow and less slide reading would have improved the presentation.
