Exploration 5: Fresh from Desiree

I thought the documentary was very educational for all because it shows the audience what goes into our food. It showed us how the food factory takes care of the animals versus how the organic farms take care of their animals. There's a huge difference between the two, and it makes me want to switch to organic meats because of it. I thought it was very disturbing that they force the cows to eat meat even though they are herbivores. It was also shocking to find out that they were feeding dead animals (dead cows) to the cows. Most of the actions that are taking place in a food factory are extremely disturbing because they take hundreds of animals and put them in a very confined area to live which can cause many diseases. I found it crazy that they are putting all these chemicals into their feed to make them "super animals" as well. Everything that the organic farms are doing is what our bodies need. Those farmers care not only for the animals, but for those who are consuming it. Will Allen is one of those farmers who really care for the animals. He makes sure that the environment that they are living in is identical to the environment that they came from. He uses his space efficiently, and he is inspiring other farmers to grow crops and care for animals in the correct way. Farmers who farm naturally provide food that is good for the consumers. The more processed it is, the less nutritious it becomes. Local/Organic
Factory chicken vs free range chicken
food may cost more at the register, but in the long run it will benefit you more than the processed meats.

  1. Did you know that through industrialization we've been able to cut in half the rate at which animals develop? A cow traditionally takes three years but through industrialization we've cut it down to one and a half to two. Those chicken nuggets at fast food joints can be produced from Chickens that are six weeks old as well.

  2. I agree that the way that factory farms treat their animals is disturbing. I do not think it is okay to subject living beings to those living conditions even if they are being raised for food.

  3. I think that is so disgusting that we as a society think it is okay to treat animals so terribly and then consume them afterwards.

  4. I agree with how gross it is that we are feeding our cows other dead animals, really made my stomach turn watching it and makes me want to only eat organic food
