Tia and Desiree: The L.A. Riots

For your comments on Presentations:

First, write about something well done.  What did you learn from this group?  What part of the Presentation seemed the best?  Be specific, and use a specific example from the Presentation and your notes.

Second, offer constructive criticism that would help this group. What might have been more clear?  What part of the Presentation seemed the least polished?  Be specific.

  1. The presentation did a great job with presenting the overall story behind the riots and Rodney King's involvement, however, a more detailed description of what actually happened during the riots would have better aided understanding.

  2. I liked the use of video and the handouts made it easy too follow along. The information at times felt brief but still overall good.

  3. I liked the video because it portrayed the major impact of the Rodney King beating. I would try to add more information on the riots themselves and what happened.

  4. I have to say this team set a fairly high standard: printing outlines for everyone was a massive plus. In addition it seems the outline handed out is the same that was used to guide the presentation: which gives us alot more than your standard presentation.

Room for Improvement: Some details such as how the officers who beat Rodney King were not charged starting the riots were left out of the main presentation and I feel adding them in would of cleared up things a bit.

  5. good info given. good cultural background presented for context of the topic. good visuals. good use of putting topic sentences on your slides. good job of bringing up current issues that can be related to the event that happened in LA.
criticism : you guys talked about the riots frequently, but did not give any info on them.

  6. I liked the use of the handout for your presentation. I also liked the use of the video clip where the officers were beating King. One thing I would say would be to have more specific information on the changes that occurred as a result.

  7. I liked how you related the LA riots to what is happening today in the black lives matter movements. One thing I thought could have been improved was the fast speed of talking, it made the presentation hard to follow at times.

  8. Great with the handouts I have a hard time catching up to what you guys were saying. The presentation was great more information but overall I liked it.

  9. It was a good use of a video, but the placement of it felt a little off, i feel that it would have helped your point more earlier in the presentation than so close to the end. The knowledge on the topic was impressive and also presentation itself was visually appealing.

  10. I though your presentation was well organized, the outline helped me follow along with no problem. Just a little more information about the LA riots to give us an understanding of how bad the riots got

  11. I liked how you showed the same video which inspired the riots. I found that you didnt elaborate on the slide points and read straight from the slide in some cases.

  12. I think you guys did a really good job presenting your information in a way that truly helped us understand what the L.A. riots were and their causes and results. The handout was very helpful and your slides were interesting and easy to interpet. If I could change anything I would recommend being more clear about your purpose with each slide. Make it obvious how the information you provide pertains to the point you want to make. I would also have liked to hear a bit more detail on certain topics but overall I thought you were very thorough.

  13. The handout was thorough since I was late, but I'd like to know more about the list of names at the start of the handout.

  14. Very strong information given, very clear about the subject. Maybe a bit more on the riots and how bad i gotten would have helped with your reasoning.

  15. Putting in how the riots effect us today, Black Lives Matter and filming of arrests, was great. Even though you covered it in the questions at the end, you should have said that he drowned in his pool; extra facts.

  16. I really liked your presentation. I have seen that video a couple times and it still is crazy that the beat him so much. One thing to change or add would just be more background on king himself as he is a very interesting guy.

  17. the relationship between the LA riots and the things that happen today was a great example to use. I think that this incident is what really started civilian riots that were caused by a police officer related abuse

  18. I was a huge fan of the printed outlines! but as well as that, both of you did a great job presenting the information and showing how well you knew it. One thing I would change is that I would have liked to known the severity of the riots.

  19. You guys did well in being able to walk us through information as pertaining to your main points and showing us how they relate. Your presentation ran smoothly in this way.

I would have appreciated more information on Rodney King. He was only briefly mentioned to introduce the riots and then you dropped his character.

  20. It was a very informative presentation. The totals added depth to the understanding of the riots and those effected. The handout was very useful in following along with presentation. My only criticism would be not giving more of a background for Rodney King.
