Exploration Three by Gabby Biliran

Dave Marsh uses characterization to describe the town he was living in down to the very last detail. To him, his town was dirty, and run down but he loved it. It was his home. When he found out that he had to move to another place, he was devastated. Throughout his story, he kept talking about the other side of the fence, the other side of the line. People could easily look at the other side, but they found a sense of danger in climbing over it. Marsh used characterization to describe the other side of the fence in detail. The best and most engaging part of his writing would be talking about the other side. If it wasn't about the town, it was about the other side of the line with racism. "That doesn't make me better than those on the other side of the line." He put so much emphasis on the division between the sides.


A song that changed my entire perspective is "Kitchen Sink" by Twenty One Pilots. It was a song that impacted me because it showed me that no one has the same thoughts, even if you're thinking of the same thing. The base of the thought is different, and everyone is different. My favorite line is "you don't know what that means because a kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me, okay friend?" That's the line that showed me that everything is different for everyone.
