Exploration 3 from Corey Peck

Part one: 
Marsh vastly uses characterization of people and place in his essay "Fortunate Son". Nearly every line helps to gather physical details or personality details. For example, Marsh goes in detail using descriptions such as "blue-white asphalt" and "Rust red dust". He uses such detail to give the reader a sense of imagery. He wants to put the reader into his shoes and make the reader experience everything he did growing up. Using characterization makes the reader gather emotions to other experiences, places and people. I think Marsh's best and most engaging writing is at the very end of the memoir. He brings everything into full circle making all of his writing applicable to anyone regardless of the situation he was in. He makes his writing relatable to everyone. An example is when Marsh says, "You are welcome to your own". When he says this he is regarding that you make things the way you want to. you are in control of yourself and your perceptions.


Part two: 
An experience I have with an artist is Foster the People. More specifically the song Pumped up Kicks. A few years ago this song was very popular but not many people understood what the song was about. It was about a lonely kid who doesn't have a good guiding figure in his life and is jealous of other kids. He wants to fit in but instead he finds a gun in his dads closet and indirectly implies that he chases these other kids down with the gun he found. Many people associate this song to school shooting and even on some stations, they're not allowed to play it anymore. This song gives me two opposite emotions. Arsing the awareness of school shootings but at the same time makes me sad because that same very reason. The implication of school shootings.
